Blue Jays Have Interest In Andrelton Simmons
4 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays have interest in Los Angeles Angels free-agent shortstop Andrelton Simmons, according to sources. MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal mentioned the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot for Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor on Monday as well. Toronto currently has Bo Bichette at the 6, but a trade for Lindor or a signing of Simmons would likely push the young shortstop over to the hot corner. Simmons hit .297/.346/.356 with no home runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in just 30 games during the shortened 2020 season. He opted out due to COVID-19 with just five games left in the season after the Angels were eliminated from playoff contention. The 31-year-old will give you modest power and stolen base numbers, making him a middle infield option in deep mixed leagues, although a move to Toronto in a young and powerful offense could make him slightly more attractive.
