Big Second Inning Hurts Eduardo Rodriguez Monday
6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking two in a 9-4 win over Oakland on Monday. The A’s put up a four-spot in the second after Rodriguez walked the first two batters before surrendering two singles and a double, all of which produced runs. He then retired the next six hitters he faced but wasn't able to make it out of the fifth despite having a 6-4 advantage. The southpaw has now struck out at least six in each of his last four starts while also not surrendering a home run in his past two outings. Rodriguez boasts a 25 percent strikeout rate, which is a great sign of effectiveness, but a .356 BABIP hints he's getting hit around the yard often. His next time out is Saturday against the White Sox, where he'll work to limit big innings and keep punching out hitters.
