Austin Nola Could Return As Soon As Thursday
3 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Austin Nola (knee) went deep for the first time on his rehab assignment and caught seven innings for Triple-A El Paso on Monday. The 31-year-old also walked twice and is hitting .286/.412/.393 through 10 games at El Paso. Monday was the third time that Nola, who is on the injured list with a knee sprain, has caught a game during his rehab. He's expected to catch again Tuesday and could rejoin the Padres as soon as Thursday in Miami. Nola has been out since late May with a knee sprain and also missed time earlier in the year with a fractured hand. He has just 10 hits (one homer) in 46 at-bats (.217) at the major league level this year, but he's capable of providing useful power in two-catcher leagues when he's activated. Nola will share time behind the dish with Victor Caratini.
