Austin Ekeler Underperforms In Starting Role
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler got another chance to be the main man on Sunday night against the Steelers, but he was underwhelming as the starter once again. Ekeler has been fantastic as the change-of-pace back when Melvin Gordon is active, but with Gordon sidelined with a knee injury, Ekeler looked terrible in the primary role. Ekeler finished with just 21 yards on 13 carries and 22 yards on five receptions, and he was easily overshadowed by Justin Jackson, a rookie who put up 63 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries. While Gordon will likely be out again next week, it wouldn’t be surprising if this performance warrants Jackson getting the starting call instead of Ekeler.
