Austin Ekeler Shows Off His Ups
5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler suddenly finds himself staring down the barrel of a starting job while Melvin Gordon holds out, and it seems like he's ready to take on the challenge. Ekeler is known for his quickness and ability to dart through small holes thanks to his diminutive stature, but he showed off his leaping ability this week. In a drill that head coach Anthony Lynn has used to train running backs for nearly 20 years, Ekeler successfully launched himself over a huge hurdle that is meant to simulate jumping the pile into the end zone. Lynn told reporters that Ekeler did as well as LaDainian Tomlinson, Fred Taylor, and Chris Johnson at the workout. That's a pretty high bar to set, but apparently, coach thinks Ekeler can clear that bar. If Gordon stays out, Ekeler becomes a valuable commodity.
