Anthony Volpe Struggling Offensively
2 years agoNew York Yankees rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe has been great defensively and is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts early on, but he's also hitting just .191 with a home run and a .628 OPS through his first 47 at-bats. He also has a lot of strikeouts (16) and eight walks. It's a small sample size for the Yankees' top prospect, but Volpe needs to work on his approach on fastballs up in the zone. The 21-year-old has a high 55.6 percent fly-ball rate and a low line-drive rate of 11.1 percent. The good news is Volpe has a modest five-game hitting streak, and it's unlikely that the Yankees will suddenly give up on him and send him back to the minor leagues.
