Anthony Rizzo Still Managing Back Injury
2 years agoThe stiffness that plagued New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) in 2022 and caused him to miss more than 20 games is expected to be a problem at some points in 2023. "I think I'd be crazy to sit here and say I won't have any back issues here," Rizzo said. "Every year, it seems like something little pops up." The 33-year-old left-handed slugger hit just .224 but also had 32 home runs, 75 RBI and a 131 OPS-plus. Rizzo said he's fine right now, but his back is something he'll have to manage throughout the year. His 18.4 percent strikeout rate was his highest mark since 2014, but he's still plenty attractive as a lefty power bat at Yankee Stadium. The rule for no shifts should help his batting average in 2023, but fantasy managers should also be expecting Rizzo to miss some time with injury.
