Andrew Painter Continues To Play Catch
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Painter (elbow) continues to play catch from 120 feet, and he could have a short bullpen session from 50-55 feet in the near future. The 20-year-old right-hander visited the team on May 9 to see team doctors and to throw in front of coaches and the medical staff. "He hasn't had any setbacks," manager Rob Thomson said. "Everything has been going fine." The team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was put on the 60-day injured list to begin the minor-league season with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. Painter and the Phillies are confident that rest and rehab will allow him to avoid surgery, and the team expects him to be pitching competitively this summer. He remains a prime stash candidate in dynasty/keeper leagues, but it's unlikely we'll see Painter pitch in the big leagues in 2023.
