Andrew Painter Allows Only One Hit on Thursday
Andrew Painter allowed two runs on one hit and three walks while striking out four across six innings against Triple-A Norfolk. Painter conceded just one hit all night, with it being a solo home run to Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who is out on a rehab assignment. He generated whiffs on all six pitches in his arsenal, totaling nine on 31 swings. He also consistently induced weak contact with an 82.6 MPH average exit velocity. The right-hander wasn't in the zone as often as you'd like at 45 percent, but still produced a quality start in 76 pitches. It was easily his best start of June, where he has struggled overall with a 5.91 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and an 18:5 K:BB in 21.1 innings. The Phillies' top prospect has things to clean up, but could debut in the majors as a starter or reliever late in the season.
