Andrelton Simmons Could Return This Weekend

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons (ankle), who has been on the injured list since May 20 with a Grade 3 left ankle sprain, started his rehab assignment with Rookie League Orem on Tuesday. He's way ahead of schedule, as his injury generally requires eight to 12 weeks to heal. If all goes well this week, Simmons could return to the Angels lineup as soon as Friday against the Cardinals. When he returns, the team will have to decide whether to option rookie Luis Rengifo to Triple-A Salt Lake or designate Wilfredo Tovar for assignment. It sounds as though the Angels want Rengifo to develop more in the minors. Simba doesn't give his owners much power (three homers), but he was hitting .298/.323/.415 with 22 runs, 21 RBI and five steals before his injury. That plays in most leagues at shortstop.
