Amed Rosario To Try His Hand At Outfield
4 years agoCleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said that he talked about the idea of shortstop Amed Rosario taking some fly balls in center field next week. Andres Gimenez, 22, entered Thursday with a .333 batting average and a 1.242 OPS in six Cactus League games, and he's also showcased his defense at shortstop. Gimenez made his major league debut in 2020 with the Mets and played in 49 games, but Cleveland could decide to start him in the minors for service-time purposes. Rosario has hit .333 with a .762 OPS in five spring games and has more big league experience, but the fact that they are giving him some looks in the outfield could mean that Gimenez has forced the Tribe's hand. This news should make Gimenez's stock continue to rise, especially in dynasty leagues, while Rosario looks destined for more of a utility role.
