Alex Smith Out, Dwayne Haskins Jr. Starting Again
4 years agoWashington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith (calf) has officially been ruled out for Week 16 against the Panthers. Dwayne Haskins Jr., who was fined and had his captainship removed after violating COVID-19 protocols earlier this week, will make his second straight start. The second-year QB was benched earlier this season but now has a chance to clinch the division title for the team. The 23-year-old from Ohio State had just under 300 yards passing against Seattle last week, but he'll be without top receiver Terry McLaurin against Carolina. The Panthers secondary can be easily beat, but Washington figures to lean more on their ground game, if possible, especially with impressive rookie running back Antonio Gibson (toe) back in the fold after missing two games. Haskins is a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues with Smith out again.
