Alex Smith, Antonio Gibson, Terry McLaurin Miss Practice
4 years agoWashington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith (calf), rookie running back Antonio Gibson (toe) and wide receiver Terry McLaurin (ankle) all missed practice on Wednesday. Backup QB Taylor Heinicke took the first-team repetitions with Smith out. Washington has been optimistic about Smith the last two weeks, but he didn't play in Week 16 and is questionable for Sunday night against the Eagles in a must-win game. Despite improving this offense in his five starts in 2020, Smith remains a low-end QB2 if he makes is return. Heinicke will be even less trustworthy if he gets the start. Gibson returned from turf toe last week but played just 30 percent of the snaps. We'd expect him to play more this weekend, so upgrade him to a low-end RB2. McLaurin sat out in last week's loss to Carolina with a high-ankle sprain and is highly questionable against Philly. He's likely a must-start if he's active, but temper your expectations. Cam Sims was the most productive wideout with McLaurin out in Week 16, but he's hard to trust as a flex, especially if Smith misses another game.
