AJ Dillon 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Dynasty Stash After Landing On Season-Ending IR
4 months agoAJ Dillon, the Green Bay Packers' "Quadzilla" himself, was once a name that struck fear into fantasy managers facing a potential backfield committee with Aaron Jones. The situation should have looked clearer now that Jones has moved on to the Minnesota Vikings, but the offseason was not kind to Dillon. The Packers signed Josh Jacobs and drafted USC RB MarShawn Lloyd in the third round to push Dillon further down the draft charts. Dillon's yards per carry dropped to a mere 3.4, and his receiving role was virtually non-existent, with only 22 total receptions. Overall, he rushed for 613 yards on 178 attempts and two touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 223 yards over 15 games. This translated to a disappointing fantasy season, finishing as the RB42 in 2023. Despite whispers of a breakout, we all got a touchdown rate of 1.1% per carry – a far cry from what was expected. With the Packers signing of Jacobs and the drafting of Lloyd, Dillon has been relegated to a backup role, most likely third on the depth chart behind Jacobs and Lloyd. Some might argue Dillon's power could still lead to occasional touchdowns, but with an ADP of RB61, you're gambling on a handful of scores with minimal receiving upside. Dillon's as a fantasy difference-maker is likely over. Unless injuries strike the Packers's backfield, he's best left as a deep flyer in best ball leagues. Update 08/28/24: Dillon was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and will miss the 2024 season. He was dealing with a neck stinger, ending his season before it began. Dillon will rehab and look to fully recover heading into 2025.
