Luke Schoonmaker is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for tight ends. Andersen explains whether you should target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add In 16+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Dallas Cowboys tight end Luke Schoonmaker saw 30 percent of offensive snaps while operating as the backup to Jake Ferguson in Week 1.
However, Ferguson is dealing with a knee injury and didn't practice on Wednesday. As of now, he is expected to miss at least one game. Therefore, there's an opportunity for Schoonmaker to step up and earn more targets in the Dallas offense.
While Schoonmaker didn't command a target in the season opener, he's shown that he's capable of contributing in the past. For example, in Week 11 of his rookie season last year, Schoonmaker caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Mike McCarthy on Luke Schoonmaker "he's growing his overall game, things he needs to tighten up." MM mentioned Schoonmaker, who might start if Ferguson can't go, is also doing good work on special teams.

While we can't rely on Schoonmaker to find the end zone this week against the New Orleans Saints, he should get involved in the passing game with Ferguson sidelined. His main competition at the tight end position (with Ferguson sidelined) is Brevyn Spann-Ford, who didn't command a target in his NFL debut last week.
Schoonmaker is still a depth option relative to some of the premier options at the tight end position, but he'll see a rise in value this week as the presumptive top tight end in Dallas. He's a fringe top-25 option at the position, giving him slight appeal in leagues with 16 teams or more.
