ANALYSIS: Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster’s fantasy value has fallen off a cliff over the past year. The veteran re-signed with the Chiefs before the start of the regular season after playing for the New England Patriots in 2023. While many thought he wouldn’t have any fantasy value this year, the former USC star is now Patrick Mahomes’ most reliable wide receiver.
Smith-Schuster is replacing Rashee Rice in the slot after the second-year star suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. The veteran receiver was outstanding in Week 5, totaling seven receptions on eight targets for 130 receiving yards and 16.5 half-point PPR fantasy points. He made several impact plays in the win over the New Orleans Saints.

While the Chiefs have their bye in Week 6, fantasy players should target Smith-Schuster off the waiver wire. The veteran was fantasy-relevant in 2022 when he played for Kansas City. More importantly, Smith-Schuster will be Mahomes’ No. 2 weapon in the passing game behind Travis Kelce unless they make a blockbuster trade for Davante Adams or Amari Cooper over the next few weeks.
