Jeff Wilson is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 7 of the 2021 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Wilson is still recovering from having surgery for the torn meniscus he suffered back in May. Coach Kyle Shanahan noted that the team is hoping Wilson can return sometime in November, but the timetable still remains a bit unclear at this point. Despite losing top back Raheem Mostert for the season, the 49ers have remained a run-heavy team as they're averaging the ninth-most rushing attempts per game (28.8 attempts) using a mix of rookies Elijah Mitchel and Trey Sermon. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk contributes as well, but he's more of a vulture in the receiving game. Mitchell and Sermon have both been mixed bags to this point, with the former being an undrafted free agent and the latter being a third-round pick who the coaches don't seem to fully trust yet (healthy scratch in Week 1).
There's certainly a realistic path for Wilson to return to a lead-back role when he's healthy, and he has shown that he can be productive when given touches. He averaged a healthy 4.8 yards per carry last year and totaled 10 touchdowns despite receiving just three starts. He put up 204 total yards on 23 touches in one of those starts. If you have an IR spot open or want to stash a high-upside potential lead back in a rush-heavy offense, Wilson is your guy.
