Jeff Wilson Jr. is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 6 of the 2021 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: If you don't remember about this running back that goes by the name of Jeff Wilson Jr., well, I guess I can't blame you. Wilson has been out since the last game of 2020 and has yet to debut this season for the 49ers. He has missed at least four games in all years of his NFL career, so injuries were always a threat for him. The good thing, though, is that he should be back once San Francisco returns from its bye week next weekend, and ready to hit the field running (pun intended) come Week 7.
Wilson closed 2020 with an impressive run of results. He went from 9.4 PPR points to 12.0, 27.4, and lastly 23.8 fantasy points. He racked up at least 16 carries in each of all three last games of the year, rushed for 319 total yards in that W15-W17 span (58 rushing attempts), and added two more touchdowns on passing plays catching 4 of 9 targets in the last two games of the year.
Now, it is true that the 49ers backfield is a little crowded, but Wilson is perhaps the best RB in town. Elijah Mitchell got the starting nod to kick 2021 off, but he got injured early and his snap share has yet to reach a 70% in any game. Trey Sermon was inactive/unused the first two games of the year, produced in W3 and W4, but put up a dud last Sunday. Kyle Juszczyk is in the mix throughout as well. Wilson should get back to the field with -- at the very very least -- the team's RB2 role handed to him. He's worth targeting and stashing prior to the bye to potentially start him by Week 7 or Week 8.
