ANALYSIS: It is fair to label James Cook's rookie campaign a disappointment to this point. Expectations were sky-high for Cook out of the University of Georgia, though his overall impact has been minimal in 2022.
Despite the sluggish start to his career, the rookie has shown signs of life recently. Cook looked sharp in Buffalo's Week 11 win over the Cleveland Browns, posting a career-high 86 rushing yards.
A midseason trade with Indianapolis for Nyheim Hines appeared to signal doom for Cook's fantasy prospects, but the rookie has clearly been playing in front of Hines since he joined this Bills squad.
Seemingly locked in as Buffalo's change-of-pace back behind starter Devin Singletary, Cook could prove to be a useful fantasy asset down the stretch. He serves as a terrific handcuff to Singletary and he demonstrated some standalone value with last week's impressive performance against Cleveland.
Cook and the Bills get a juicy Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 12. Detroit stands just 27th in the NFL in Run Defense DVOA this season. The rookie should be rostered in all keeper leagues and can be considered as a boom/bust FLEX option against the Lions in deep fantasy leagues.
