NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/11/24

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is just about halfway done as the holiday season closes. There have been some surprises, both good and bad, and generational talent Connor Bedard has not disappointed. With teams still in flux and many unwritten stories yet to take fold, the race to the Stanley Cup is heating up!

Tonight we have a thirteen-game slate and two teams playing on a back-to-back: Montreal and Vegas. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Carolina with 4.4, Edmonton with 4.1 and Winnipeg with 3.8. I will do my best to guide you through this thirteen-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Jordan Binnington - DK $7.1K || FD $7.2K

Opponent - New York Rangers

Binnington is one of the most inconsistent goalies in the league and is often compared to ex-Penguin, Matt Murray. However, the former has picked up form of late. He is coming into this matchup with a 3-2 record, a 3.04 Goals Against Average and a 0.885 Save Percentage in his last five games. He is also coming off two major wins in his last two outings – 2-1 vs Vancouver and 2-1 at Carolina –. The Rangers are just outside the top ten in Shots Per 60 and are just outside the bottom ten in Goals For Per 60. With the Rangers struggling, this could be perfect timing for in-form Binnington to take advantage.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Vasilevskiy (DK $8.1K || FD $7.8K)
  • Swayman (DK $7.8K || FD $8.8K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Sebastian Aho - DK $7.2K || FD $8.6K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

There are numerous options at center tonight, however, Sebastian Aho stands out among them. In his last five appearances, he has 1 goal, 10 assists, 11 shots and 1 blocked shot. With the reunion of Teuvo Teravainen, Andrei Svechnikov and Aho, the trio has taken Carolina to new heights. On the other end of the ice, the Ducks are struggling and are once again without star center, Trevor Zegras. In the last ten games – excluding splits –, the Ducks are being saved by goaltending, sitting in the bottom ten in all meaningful metrics, but they are the third-worst in High Danger Chances Against Per 60. Aho and company can solve the opposition’s goalie early, they are set up for a potential big night.

Nick Suzuki - DK $5.5K || FD $6.8K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Suzuki is not HIM right now. Despite the center having 2 goals, 2 assists and 7 shots over his last five games, he has been held pointless in his last two and has only generated three shots. Although, he is playing the Sharks in Montreal and no better team than the Sharks to find form. Weighing in as the worst team historically and over their last ten, the Sharks are bound to give up a few goals to the Canadiens, especially After losing 7-1 on Tuesday.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Tavares (DK $7.3K || FD $8.9K)
  • Bjugstad (DK $4.1K || FD $4.9K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Dylan Guenther - DK $3.8K || FD $3.5K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

There may not be a more optimal value play than Dylan Guenther on the slate. The rookie looks to be getting his big chance with the Coyotes finally and is on a new-look third line with Logan Cooley and Nick Bjugstad. In one game with his new linemates, he had 1 goal, 1 assist and 5 shots in a 4-3 win over Boston. Yes, Arizona beat Boston 4-3! The focus on Guenther though is his shot volume which doesn’t come as a surprise for anyone who followed him during his junior days. Guenther is a shooter at heart and he is normally shooting before the puck even gets to him. What is the cherry on top though? Well, Calgary is playing some god-awful hockey away from the  Scotiabank Saddledome, conceding 58 goals over their last ten away games. The winger is still an unproven player and the majority of the field has a lack of knowledge of his play style and potential. This makes him the perfect value play at very low ownership.

Andrei Svechnikov - DK $5.8K || FD $6.1K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

Svechnikov screams ‘CASH’. The winger is typically one of the most consistent players at the position thanks to his high shooting volume. Although, his shooting has dropped a bit recently due to his linemates also taking a few shots here and there. In Svechnikov’s last five appearances, he has 6 goals, 4 assists, 14 shots and 1 blocked shot. As mentioned above, the Ducks are without Trevor Zegras and are barely treading water. It would be more of a surprise if Svechnikov does not hit double-digit fantasy points on DraftKings.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Nugent-Hopkins (DK $6K || FD $7.7K)
  • Vilardi (DK $5.7K || FD $6.4K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Alex Martinez - DK $4.8K || FD $5.3K

Opponent - Boston Bruins

Martinez is playing excellently right now when assessing his peripheral play. In his last five games, he has 1 goal, 12 shots and 19 blocked shots. That is well over the needed three or more blocked shots per game for the Blocked Shot Bonus on DraftKings. A similar performance against the Bruins’ top line is expected in this home matchup as well. As long as Martinez is playing top pairing minutes and under $5K salary on DraftKings, he is one of the top value defensemen.

Simon Nemec - DK $3.4K || FD $4.2K

Opponent - Tampa Bay Lightning

Nemec is now coming off two solid performances where he amassed three or more blocked shots in each game, hitting the Blocked Shots Bonus on DraftKings. With multiple injuries to the blueline, Nemec and partner, Luke Hughes are the big guns now, running the top pairing and the respective power-plays. The only unfortunate part of Nemec’s game is his lack of point production. Despite the rookie defenseman being a two-way player, he is more defensive-minded when it comes to his playstyle and it limits his ceiling.
