Digging Deeper: Week 13 Waiver Wire Targets

Welcome back to Digging Deeper! As Tom explained last week now you get both AL and NL deep waiver wire picks in one convenient article. This week you're stuck with me, which is a good thing! (Update from last week -- Tom is still chasing me in the Rotoballer Expert's League).

Injuries are plentiful, home runs are the same, and everyone is looking for the next Cody Bellinger, Jose Berrios, and Mike Zunino. I can't guarantee that you'll find the next big piece of waiver gold here, but I'll do my best to highlight the players that have that kind of upside. I'll also plug some players riding hot streaks who deserve your attention.

Because I'll be covering more players, my analysis will be shorter and to the point. Feel free to find me on Twitter @Max_Petrie and ask me to explain more personally. I'll be happy to do so, and even contort the waiver pick-up to your own team and situation. Let's win these leagues! Good luck!

Digging Deeper: Week 12 Picks

Josh Reddick (OF, HOU) - 18% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Reddick has been on fire since returning from the DL (concussion). He is hitting 9-for-18 (.500) with 8 runs, two home runs, four RBI and a steal in his past five games. Any worry about post-concussion issues can be tossed out the window. Reddick will split playing time in a loaded Astros offense but when active, he should be in your lineups. Now the only question is -- how is he under 18% ownership?

Brian Goodwin (OF, WAS)2% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

The Nationals may be one of the luckier squads in baseball. Dusty Baker hasn't ripped an arm off a starter (yet) and they were able to replace Adam Eaton and Jayson Werth with Michael Taylor and Brian Goodwin. Goodwin has been a spark plug for the Nationals in Werth's absence, hitting .320 with two home runs in the past week while manning the No. 2 hole in the order. Any place at the top of the Nationals lineup is fantasy goodness. Go invest before Werth returns.

Mitch Moreland (1B, BOS) - 18% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

What does Moreland have to do to deserve some respect? An obvious sleeper in the preseason, Moreland has homered in three straight contests this week. He's a streaky hitter - he hit home runs in three consecutive games earlier this season - but Boston has him hitting cleanup which is all we care about. Grab Moreland and enjoy the power surge.

Jose Urena (SP, MIA) - 20% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

How is good pitching available in so many leagues? Urena has been excellent since joining the Marlins rotation. In his last three starts, he has a 1.50 ERA and 0.94 WHIP and picked up two wins in the process. Most notably was his most recent outing in which he blanked the Cubs over six innings. Urena is a cheap addition to your rotation.

Phil Maton (RP, SD) - 1% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Here's your deep sleeper for the week. Maton joined the Padres bullpen on June 11 and he has been electric. In six and two/third innings, Maton has a 10/0 K/BB with no runs and five total base runners. It is only a matter of time before Maton becomes a closer, and with Brandon Maurer and Brad Hand available via trade, that time could come before August. Invest.

Patrick Corbin (SP, ARI) - 16% owned in Yahoo Leagues

It's hard to get excited about a 4.89 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, but Corbin has turned it around lately. In his last two starts Corbin has a 2.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP to go along with 10 strikeouts, and perhaps most importantly one home run. Corbin has been a victim of the long ball all season (15 HR in 84 innings), but his stacked offense has provided him with six wins. He gets a home outing with St. Louis on Thursday, a team that is without red-hot Dexter Fowler.

R.A. Dickey (SP, ATL) - 6% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

*Disclaimer: This pick is known to cause heartburn and high levels of stress. Proceed with caution *

Sure, this is far from the most attractive pick. But can you name the No. 1 pitcher in baseball over the last week? None other than R.A. Dickey, who has allowed one run in his last 14 innings to go along with a 12/2 K/BB. After telling Atlanta reporters that he needs to improve his performance on June 3rd, he has had three starts of seven innings with one run or less. He gets a streamer friendly start Saturday versus the Oakland A's if you need pitching support.

Again, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @Max_Petrie with any questions and comments. Go get 'em!
