Darrel Williams (RB, KC) - Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

Darrel Williams is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 9% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Kansas City Chiefs starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has posted back-to-back 100-yard games, scoring a receiving touchdown in both. However, there has been another storyline developing in the background. The team's No. 2 back Darrel Williams has been slowly cutting into Edwards-Helaire's snap share as the team has been making their run game more of a priority.

In Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, the Chiefs only ran 15 rushing plays with their running backs while quarterback Patrick Mahomes hurled 36 passes. The last two weeks have been a different story. Sure, Mahomes is still airing it out, but the team has really increased their rushing efforts. Edwards-Helaire and Williams have combined for 48 rushing attempts over the past two weeks. This past week, Williams saw 10 attempts behind Edwards-Helaire's 14. CEH logged a season-low 52% of the team's snaps in Week 4 while Williams logged a season-high 36%. By comparison, CEH logged 72% of the snaps in Week 1, compared to Williams' 22%.

This is a very clear two-player running game right now. The team's No. 3 back, Jerick McKinnon, has logged just 19 total snaps through four games. McKinnon has yet to see a carry and has just one target in the passing game. Williams' primary value is as a fantastic handcuff for CEH, but he also could provide for some flex value in deep leagues even while CEH is healthy. Williams has scored touchdowns in two of the past three weeks and he totaled a season-high 58 yards in Week 4. Add him if you need running back depth in leagues of 14 teams or deeper and make him a priority if Edwards-Helaire is your RB2.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Running Backs

Let's say you're one of the many fantasy football managers who drafted Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton (ankle). Maybe you chose Cardinals RB James Conner (ankle). Perhaps you selected Titans tailback Tony Pollard. If you chose any of these players, you've probably been hurting at RB for most of the season. The same […]

Waiver Wire Pickups: Wide Receivers

The wide receiver position is just a little bit more forgiving than the running back position in terms of finding talent on the waiver wire. It's hard to find players that will be consistently good moving forward, though. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (collarbone), Green Bay Packers wideout Christian Watson, and Houston Texans […]
