Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (4/1) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the April 2nd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 1st games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Power move! Miguel Cabrera celebrates with mid home-run trot Snow Slide. Like a Boss!
  • Robbie Grossman taps the 2021 SB keg. It's gonna be a very good year.
  • Byron Buxton provides the inaugural combo meal. For this special occasion, he chooses Raising Canes. For the 456 footer, you get the Caniac Combo.
  • Did Shane Bieber & Matthew Boyd switch bodies for this game? Nope, Bieber w/12 K. Boyd w/improvements and a W.
  • THUNDAH! Teoscar Hernandez w/437 ft monster jam.
  • "Sir, your dinner is served — 3.1 IP, 8 ER, 2 BB, 0 K." Uh, I didn't order this! "You ordered 'El Castillo'. This is how it is served today.
  • Austin Meadows with amnesia.. forgetting all about 2020 w/ 419 ft souvenir.
  • "Who is the man, that knocks them out; when there's danger all about?" Ke'Bryan Hayes.
  • Tall-Dude Strategy! Tyler Glasnow (6'8) and Alcantara (6'5) got together & agreed to a plan of success. (six scoreless innings w/six & seven K, respectively.)
  • Gary Sanchez is intent on serving up crow for many to enjoy. First warm plate.
  • Yes, you wanted more than 4.1 innings from either of Kenta Maeda and Brandon Woodruff. Remember, we're just warming up.
  • Three out of four ain't bad for Javier Baez. Oh, damn. Those were strikeouts. Heyward concurs.
  • Willson Contreras leading ALL catchers in steals (one). It's not even close! No, I will not calm down.
  • The Panda Returns! No, this isn't a Disney movie. Pablo Sandoval w/111 mph express deliver for first long ball.
  • Whit Merrifield knows you ordered SB, but sometimes he wants to flex the big guns.
  • "It will be easy, " they said. "The Rockies have a bad offense," they said. Clayton Kershaw w/ five ER, two K in 5.2 IP.
  • What a wonderful host. German Marquez handing out six free passes. A true gentleman.
  • Chris Owings batting 1.000 (three-for-three). Whoa....don't rush to the waiver wire.
  • The San Diego heat demanded home run extravaganza. The pitchers obliged with six.
  • Tim Locastro lauched an "I Told You I Should Have Started' long ball. Let the swooning begin.
  • How many people will wish they rostered Ketel Marte (four-for-five)? Cajun 8-Ball says...it will be an @$$-load.
  • Eleven-run support and Jack Flaherty couldn't make it through five IP?!?! Breathe.
  • The team HR Derby begins. Nick Castellanos vs Eugenio Suarez. One will be the NL HR champ.
  • Raise your hand if you didn't have a starting pitcher that was stuck on the rollercoaster called Gut Punch.
  • Excuse me, Mr. Leody Taveras. Can we get a selfie? Oh, can you wear this Golden Sombrero?
  • Kyle Gibson w/ five ER in 0.1 IP. I don't think even OxiClean will get that out.
  • Gerrit Cole's 5.1 IP, 2 ER, & 8 K is exciting, comparatively.
  • Youth movement! Tyler O'Neill & Dylan Carlson showing old-timers how it's done.
  • What a special day to see a Jorge Soler flare? Maybe you didn't see it (113 mph exit velo)
  • More, please. Austin Slater w/first long-distance argument for consistent playing time.
  • Zack Greinke looks amused by the simplicity of the game (6 IP, 4K, W)
  • Alex Bregman callin' Baton Rouge (LSU Pride)
  • The thievery begins. Luis Robert grabs his first base...more to come.
  • Adam Eaton gets the big rig in motion. What?! I don't care if it was 374 ft. It counts.
  • Nick Madrigal gets first a hit. Please, contain your excitement.
  • What comes first, a Joey Gallo HR or SB?
  • Did anyone else expect 24 runs from the Rangers/Royals? Oh, that didn't include 56 runners LOB.
  • Dead ball?

  • It's great to finally have baseball back. There will be good days and frustrating days. Don't stress. Force yourself to relax and enjoy the ride. Remember, don't make any sudden rash decisions out of fear. You had a strategy. Stick with it.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
