Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/26) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Tuesady, August 27th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 27th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Freddie Freeman, you don’t need to steal bases(6), I like you just the way you are. Healthy. Don’t jinx it.
  • Ronald Acuna, please show Trevor Story(19SB) the way to the top-six pick train(2020). 35/25/.290 should be sufficient.
  • “I hit a HR for you, son.”  Bryce Harper(28) is a daddy & has a story to tell him.
  • Corey Dickerson has some value in the upper half of the lineup. 12RBI last two weeks.
  • Josh Bell w/rest day. No rest for Rawlings. Bell w/432ft Monster Jam! 92.5mph avg exit velo ranks 13th.
  • Joe Musgrove wasn’t too terrible. There’s a compliment in there somewhere.
  • John Gant sees Ryan Yarbrough (2018) & says “I can do that.” Nine wins later, maybe you can.
  • Yadier Molina w/first HR since return from IL. Playing time is his gift.
  • Desperate for Brewers action, you paid a hefty price starting Gio Gonzalez. 5IP, 7ER. Ugh.
  • Tommy Edman only 19% owned. Deep-league help w/15R, 3SB, .371AVG last 15 days.
  • Some people just won’t listen. Missing out on Freddy Galvis. 3HR, 8RBI, .385AVG last week.
  • Jon Berti isn’t even trying to help the Marlins anymore, just your fantasy team. Eighth stolen base.
  • .250AVG is awesome! Especially when it comes w/40HR. Eugenio Suarez at 36.
  • Nick Senzel, you don’t have to try so hard. Your 10HR/13SB is gonna be a value pick for me in 2020. Just rest up.
  • Raimel Tapia to IL. Beneficiary of Coors = Garrett Hampson? Meh.
  • Rude Reds. Didn’t you know it was Pablo Lopez’ return game?
  • Yes, Sonny Gray. You are definitely a contender for comeback player. 10-6, 2.92ERA. 19.1%K-BB. Should we send award directly to Derek Johnson?
  • Of course Homer Bailey has 12 wins. He deserves it with a 5.04ERA(4.32FIP). Pfff.
  • 40HR might be a stretch, Khris Davis(19). But, you can still get to .247AVG.
  • Marcus Semien doesn’t get enough respect. 94R(ranks 10th), 23HR, 7SB, .273AVG. 5.2WAR.
  • Matt Chapman w/30 long balls.
  • Tim Melville, you sly dog. You just might have Coors figured out. PIT next. I’m rooting for you. Sorry, won’t own you.
  • D’backs, tell me. Are you going to give him regular playing time? If so, I’ll get pick Wilmer Flores back up.
  • Mallex Smith’s 85.2mph avg exit velo is gonna run into a HR from time to time. (6)
  • Dustin May was good, until he wasn’t. Still a solid outing and should get more starts as LAD rests starters.
  • Looks like Justin Turner got a fresh batch of Giants Milk recently. 7HR, 11RBI, .321AVG last 15 days.
  • Have a great Tuesday. Pick something new to make you happy on this fine day.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
