Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the Thursday, August 22nd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 22nd. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Kenley Jansen is Walker Buehler's secret valentine. What color rose is for 'Sorry, I screwed you over'?
  • Everyone will try to forecast what Will Smith can do over a full season and rank him as a top-three catcher in 2020.
  • Iglesias powers unite. Jose Iglesias provides the power, Raisel Iglesias provides the closure.
  • Luis Castillo rebounds after a terrible outing. Good sign.
  • Francisco Mejia might be my "best of the lower tier" guy in 2020 unless he finishes 2019 too strong.
  • Four games without a long-distance love letter? Does Aristides Aquino even care anymore?
  • Tommy Pham comes & goes. He's back w/3HR & 3SB in last week. Have Biofreeze on standby.
  • Kevin Kiermaier w/combo meal. 14% owned.
  • Dee Gordon w/career-best exit velo (83.3mph) is bottom 20 in baseball. He's here for the 18SB.
  • How exclusive is 14-Win club when Lucas Giolito strolls in? Happy for his turnaround.
  • Best second basemen: Ketel Marte 5.7WAR. 141 wRC+.
  • Jon Gray done for the season. Is Tim Melville the answer?
  • Asdrubal Cabrera has always loved him some August(.277 career) & September (.288 career). Solid Nats lineup bodes well. Just needs PT.
  • Maybe Joe Musgrove needed another year of seasoning.
  • Corbin. Corbin, My Man! With two successful seasons, I'm a believer Patrick Corbin.
  • I guess Mike Montgomery doesn't have everything figured out yet. At least not the O's.
  • Underowned. Renato Nunez (37%); Anthony Santander (20%); Hanser Alberto (8%). 4-game series at home.
  • See what could happen w/consistent PT. Willie Calhoun w/back-to-back HR games.
  • How many playing double-dutch w/Delino DeShields? Waiting for the right time to get in. Missed another SB.
  • Hansel Robles blowing a save isn't a good look.
  • Bryce Harper's branding of the entire cowhide family continues. (27)
  • Jackie Bradley Jr. has defense & once in a while, the sun shines through his cloudy batting skills. 16th ray of sunshine.
  • Rafael Devers w/19 errors. Thank goodness for Tim Anderson (20). How long before Devers moves to 1B?
  • '91R, 30HR, .291AVG,' played by Carlos Santana
  • There he goes. Ronald Acuna Jr. struttin his stuff towards the top. 36 warning shots. Here I come.
  • Options aside, who's got that one-year contract ready for Mike Moustakas? 31 lightning strikes!
  • Cubs being generous putting a man on base before Nicholas Castellanos hits a tater. You're gonna spoil him.
  • Mike Yastrzemski w/17 long balls. That's more than.....hold on, have to check.
  • Justin Verlander w/complete-game loss. Excellence always. (psst, it was the Tigers. ahahahaha)
  • I'm sorry, you said who hit a HR? Khris Davis? With a K? I thought he was in a nursing home.
  • Blake Treinen is just a guy now. One of my expensive "guys" of 2019.
  • Max Muncy, we've super-sized your combo meal. On the house.
  • Have a great Thursday. Bring some fun to your day. Laugh a little bit more.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
