Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/15) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 16th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 15th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Luke Voit carries a big staff with 'Voit’s Victims' etched on it. Below it was a single name: ‘Rawlings’ followed by 18 tally marks.
  • More of "Follower" Ryan Yarbrough? Yes, please.
  • Tanner Houck brings the highlight reel. Five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
  • Tucker Barnhart (four) doing his vogue on the 404-foot catwalk.
  • We wouldn’t expect anything less. Nate Lowe cruises in carrying an A&W Grandpa Burger Combo Meal!!! (Third HR/First SB)
  • No, Rick Porcello isn’t from Kentucky. 6.06 is his ERA.
  • Shun Yamaguchi, we are not playing follow the leader. Just because Taijuan Walker allows seven runs doesn’t mean you have to.
  • Santiago Espinal brings the heat w/ 48.7 mph “curveball.” DJ LeMahieu not fooled (seventh HR). Make sure to send a gratitude bouquet.
  • Walking more (14%) & striking out less (27%) are ingredients to success. Keep it up Clint Frazier (six taters). Make them find a spot for you in 2021.
  • Giancarlo Stanton returns. Yankees score 20 runs. How will you count all of your riches? It won’t take long. 0-for-4.
  • 5’9, 163 lb men have superpowers too. Ask Deivi Garcia as he grabbed 2nd W. 7 IP, 3 ER, 6 K.
  • Very slick, Matthew Boyd. 5.2 IP, 4 BB, 5 K.
  • Adam Duvall has 10 HR in the last 15 games. He’s only 68% rostered. Are you too busy making malassadas or something?
  • No one wants to get in the way of that avalanche slide down the standings that Jack Flaherty caused. 3 IP, 9 ER, 2 BB…but thank goodness for those six K.
  • Will we all be sitting around the campfire in two weeks laughing at how silly we were to have worried about Christian Yelich (10 HR)?
  • Savior or too-little-too-late? Jose Urquidy is wearing a big ‘ole Texas buckle after 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K.
  • The Astros have one guy (Michael Brantley) hitting above .275. Maybe a couple of discounts in 2021.
  • My Man! Dane Dunning intrigued why some think the Twins are a powerhouse. 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K.
  • Ok, Tim Anderson (.377 AVG). You’ve made your point. I was completely wrong. I didn’t think you could sniff a batting title, let alone win two…in a row.
  • Keep running, Luis Robert (eight SB). Dominate & someone will draft you in the third round of 2021 drafts (maybe even second). (Master plan in effect).
  • What was it, shortstop bonding day or something? Javier Baez & Francisco Lindor come in with Raising Cane combo meals. Jealous? Hell yeah, I’m jealous.
  • 2021 dreamland. Joe Musgrove ditches the fastball and only throws the slider and curveball.
  • Write it down now…**2021 Prediction….Trent Grisham will be everything people expected from a full season of Ramon Laureano..and more**
  • Isn’t Byron Buxton capable of walking around the bases & still getting an inside-the-diamond homer?
  • Everyone stop what you’re doing. Take a moment to celebrate Antonio Senzatela with CG victory in Coors
  • No, I don’t think Daisy is Josh Fuentes’ sister. Why are you asking? Let’s focus on baseball.
  • Edwin Rios, brother of Gustavo. We hope you get playing time so you can lay down the THUNDAH regularly.
  • Well damn, Tony Gonsolin. I was wrong about that start. 7 IP, 1 ER vs Friars. Well done.
  • Thankfully I didn’t rush for Madison Bumgarner. 5.1 IP, 8 ER. Bless his heart.

  • Red Hots Update:
  • Jared Walsh, we’ve told them you’re on fire already. They’ve been trained…”HOT, don’t touch.” Some retraining is needed. Six HR in nine games is impressive, but so is six multi-hit games out of seven.

Good Wednesday morning! Yep, it's an early one. Don't be afraid to change things up. Getting up early will allow you to get things done without any interruptions as the rest of the world is sleeping. Challenge yourself to find advantages & maximize them.
