ANALYSIS: The Chicago Bears made a big splash in the opening round of the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting top tight end prospect Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick. Loveland spent his entire three-year college career at the University of Michigan.
In 2023, Loveland played a key role in their run for the National Championship as he caught 45 passes for a career-high 649 yards. In 2024, he took a slight step back without quarterback J.J. McCarthy, but was still able to tally a season-high five touchdowns.
Throughout training camp, Loveland was consistently deployed long in the first team, which is an excellent sign for his fantasy outlook. He received high praise from his coaching staff and was heavily involved in the passing attack.
During the preseason, he saw two targets in his first dive with quarterback Caleb Williams. While veteran tight end Cole Kmet could also see work with the starters, given Loveland's prosecution in training camp and his role with the first team during practice, he may have already jumped ahead on the depth chart.
While Loveland could occasionally lose snaps to Kmet early in the season, he possesses immense upside and will likely take complete control over the starting job later in the season. As a result, he carries some risk in their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, but is still worth considering as a low-end TE1 in all standard 12-team leagues.
