BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 10% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: As sour as Jameis Winston might be about his current situation and losing his QB1 job because of injury, the only truth here is that Andy Dalton is the Saints starting quarterback. Barring a catastrophe and with the Saints still having (minimal but some) chances of cracking the postseason, that shouldn't change, at least for the next week.
The Saints started the season 1-2 with Winston as their starter and they have gone 3-5 with Dalton at the helm. In other words, the former won 33% of his games and the latter 37%. The difference isn't incredible, but over a larger period of time, Dalton has (even mediocrely) outperformed Winston.
Fantasy GMs would probably prefer to have Winston available instead of Dalton because of the boom/bust profile of the former compared to the lower ceiling of the veteran, but that doesn't mean Dalton is a horrid option for GMs streaming the position or hunting for viable fantasy QBs for one reason or another.
Dalton is coming off his second game over 17 FP this season after completing 21-of-25 passes against the Rams for 260 yards and three touchdowns. He had an even better game for fantasy purposes back in Week 7 (30 completions, 361 yards, 4 TD, 3 INT) although he got picked a handful of times. Last Sunday marked the first time in three weeks Dalton avoided getting intercepted.
Dalton can be considered an 18-completion, 220-yard, one-TD, one-INT, type of passer, although he reaches that benchmark quite easily weekly. That doesn't mean those numbers are great by any means, but you can at least count on them being there every weekend. Surely not a QB1, Dalton can give you low-end QB2 points as long as he keeps starting games.
