BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 20% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Buffalo Bills running back Matt Breida has been emerging in the team's backfield in recent weeks, and the year is 2021. This is not a typo. The Bills have employed a mostly-timeshare backfield all season long between Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, but over the past two weeks we have seen Matt Breida being productive and gaining more playing time and touches.
Two weeks ago, in his first action of the year, he got three rushing attempts and three targets (for three catches) and racked up two touchdowns -- good for 17 PPR points. Then last week he followed it up with five rushing attempts for 51 yards, good for a 10.2 yards per attempt. As RotoBaller's Michael Florio pointed out in his deeper waiver wire pickups article earlier in the week:
He played 32 percent of the snaps and had a team-high five carries for 51 yards. He added two targets, in total going for 67 yards, while the other Bills backs combined for 48 yards against the Colts. The Bills coaching staff has spoken about Breida’s speed, and he showcased it with some big gains.
The coaching staff has stated the Breida has earned more touches, and in Week 12's matchup versus the Saints they are backing up their words -- Zack Moss will be a healthy scratch.
While the Bills normally don't strategize an offensive game plan with a run-heavy approach, they have been losing more games than they're accustomed to recently and Breida seems to be providing a spark.
While Breida carries plenty of risk for fantasy football managers as a start this week, he is an ideal stash candidate off the waiver wire to see how this week plays out. Let's not forget that the Bills are still one of the most talented teams and offenses in the NFL, so stranger things have happened than Breida carving out a fantasy-relevant role going forward.
