A.J. Green is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for wide receivers. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 9 of the 2021 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: I'm breaking the rules with this pick as we're past the 50-percent rostership mark, but I just felt the need to write about veteran wideout and freshest Cardinal A.J. Green getting past the middle point of the season. In 2020 it took Green, in case you don't remember, 14 weeks to put up his second (and last) top-24 game of the year, but he was already there by Week 6 of this 2021 campaign. Green seems to have regained his early-days mojo, at least to a certain extent, and that's great news for fantasy GMs out there either 1) trusting him from the get-go (draft season) or 2) trying to snatch some shares of Green for the second half of the year as a WW acquisition.
Green has put together back-to-back games of scoring virtually 10 PPR points against Houston and Green Bay most recently. Those two afforded Green a WR3 finish in both cases, which is perhaps not the greatest of outcomes, but still good enough for his availability and early-season exploits. From Week 2 to Week 6, both included, Green scored 13.4+ PPR points four of five times and in three of those four weeks Green finishes as a WR2 with 16.2, 17.7, and 18.9 PPR points. Not bad at all, is what I'm saying.
The Cards trusted Green the most last TNF targeting him 8 times (team-high) with DeAndre Hopkins leaving early (after 15 snaps) and Kirk clocking in second with 6 looks himself. Green finished with a season-high-tying 5 receptions for a low 50 yards, but the truth is that those 10 YPR feel a little bit like an outlier as he's averaging 16.3 prior to this game. Green is about to become widely unavailable in most fantasy leagues, but he's very well worth a quick check just in case your fellow GMs have not caught up to this man's upside yet allowing you to get some free shares of him ROS.
