Tony Jones Jr. Receives Backfield Promotion
3 years agoNew Orleans Saints running back Tony Jones Jr. was promoted to the No. 2 role in the backfield when veteran Latavius Murray was released on Tuesday evening. While Jones, a 2020 undrafted free agent, saw the field for just five snaps as a rookie, he made tremendous strides during the preseason and was already pushing for the backup job prior to Murray's departure. As Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football notes, "Jones ran with such great vision and patience during the preseason. The release of Murray isn't altogether a shock. Jones was pressing him for that job." As of now, Jones is worth stashing in leagues with 12 or more teams. He shouldn't factor into your starting lineups right away, but there is plenty of room for him to increase his fantasy stock as he works to carve out a clear role with the Saints this season.
