Jacob deGrom Strikes Out 10, Allows Two Homers Wednesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom allowed multiple home runs (two solo shots) for the first time this season on Wednesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he also struck out 10 in seven effective innings to become the second-fastest pitcher to reach 1,500 strikeouts in a career. deGrom has been more human in his last three starts (3.15 ERA) after going 7-2 with an 0.50 ERA in his first 12 starts. Since he only threw 85 pitches in the game and has no plans to pitch in next week's All-Star game, the Mets are debating whether to use him on short rest for a shorter start this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates that would take the place of a bullpen session. It sounds crazy to say it, but deGrom won't be a recommended DFS play on Sunday if he gets the nod, since he's unlikely to log a full starter's workload.
