Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, at which point the Rays should have a better understanding of his timetable for a return. Manager Kevin Cash said the team is "very encouraged" by his progress, and he seems to be ahead of scheduled from a right rotator cuff strain. The 27-year-old right-hander could return to the bullpen soon. Diego Castillo remains the team's closer, but Fairbanks will be another option for Tampa in high-leverage situations when he returns to full health. Fairbanks had allowed one run while striking out two and walking two in 2 2/3 innings over three appearances for the Rays to begin the 2021 season.--Keith Hernandez
