Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said the team is releasing long-time star defensive tackle Geno Atkins on Friday. It's an end of an era in Cincinnati, but the Bengals needed to free up some more salary cap space after committing more than $120 million on five new starters in free agency this week. Atkins is an eight-time Pro Bowler and has a chance to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The Bengals will save $9.5 million on the salary cap this year with the move. Larry Ogunjobi is the likely replacement on Cincy's defensive line. Atkins was selected in the fourth round in 2010 out of Georgia and became one of the league's most dominant pass-rushers. He has racked up 75.5 sacks in 161 career games, which ranks him sixth all time on the list of pure defensive tackles in NFL history. But Atkins turns 33 in nine days and had zero sacks in 2020 while playing through an injured shoulder.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
