MLB Proposes Slightly Shortened 2021 Season

The Major League Baseball Players Association is mulling over a proposal by MLB to delay the start of the 2021 season, and if the Union doesn't provide a counteroffer early next week, spring training is likely to start in mid-February as scheduled, according to sources. The league's proposal would push spring training back to late March and the beginning of the season to late April, which would include a 154-game schedule that would pay player their full salaries. The proposal also includes the universal designated hitter and an expanded postseason to 14 teams. The players union is expected to reject the proposal. The two sides could reach an agreement, but the mistrust between both sides is deep enough that sources are skeptical about the likelihood of a deal.
