Raiders quarterback (QB) Derek Carr is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: I'm just a guy writing from his mom's basement, so I'm no one to tell you what to do... unless it has to do with Derek Carr. It doesn't take a genius to see what's going on, but somehow and for some reason, Carr is available in almost 3 out of each 4 Yahoo! fantasy leagues. Carr, by the way, is the 33rd-best player in fantasy football and current QB20 in total FP and QB17 in FP per game through Week 7. Just saying.
In the six weeks Carr has been part of, the Raiders quarterback has finished as the QB15 on average. Carr last two performances (W5 and W7) went for 25 and 19.3 FP, and he finished as a QB1 in both cases, as the 8th- and 12th-best player at the position. Other than in W1, Carr has never finished worse than QB19 overall in any slate he's played.
This past weekend against Tampa Bay's highly-rated defense Carr completed 24 of his 36 attempts for 284 yards, threw a couple of touchdowns, and was picked once. This can be considered a down performance from Carr, and even with that he still fell just 0.7 fantasy points short of reaching 20 for the fourth time this year. Carr also added 19 yards on two carries and was penalized after fumbling the ball on time.
With the bye week already on its rearview mirror, the Raiders will face three bottom-third defenses against QBs in fantasy points allowed to the position in the next three games. Carr is already a QB1 (even more factoring that some quarterbacks are going to be out on byes weekly for a while) and the schedule ahead has him solidified at that fantasy role. Must-add in slightly deeper leagues, and a good streaming option in any shallower format.
