In one of the most stunning games in recent memory, the Carolina Hurricanes lost both goalies to injury before the middle of the second period against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. James Reimer started the game but left after suffering a lower-body injury after one save. Petr Mrazek then left in the second period after a violent collision with Kyle Clifford of the Leafs. That forced Leafs’ emergency backup, a 42-year-old Zamboni driver, to enter the game for Carolina. After allowing goals on the first two (difficult) shots, David Ayres settled down and did not allow another goal. He made eight-of-10 saves to take the unlikely win. Warren Foegele scored two goals for Carolina in the 6-3 over the Maple Leafs. Sebastian Aho had an assist to extend his points streak to 12 games. Andrei Svechnikov’s assist gave him points in 10 straight games. Martin Necas had a goal and an assist. The Hurricanes also lost defenseman Brett Pesce to a serious-looking shoulder injury. --Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
