Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon rattled off three straight goals late in Friday night's contest, erasing Edmonton's lead and sealing the game for Minnesota. Five players registered assists across Spurgeon's three goals, but none of them more than once, which shows just how central Spurgeon was to Minnesota's offensive attack. After setting a career-high in goals (14), assists (29), and points (43) last season at 29 years old, Spurgeon is matching that point pace (0.53 points per game) and on a slightly higher scoring pace (0.19 goals per game). Besting his career shooting percentage in each of the last three seasons, it seems Spurgeon has found a way to add more of an offensive touch to his game well into his career. In points-only leagues, Spurgeon makes a good case for a spot on your bench, but likely only in deeper leagues.--Russ Ivanac - RotoBaller
