Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/22) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Monday, September 23rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 23rd. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Cause you’re once, twice, three times a (George) Springer & we looooove you. 38HR* (*missed a month)
  • Means means dominance. 7IP, 1ER, 4K. The world is not ready. “Ahem, it was Seattle.” Ok, Seattle was not ready for John Means.
  • Chris Davis smacks 11th homer in fun-ball era. Spell not necessary. He is definitely past his ‘Best by’ date.
  • This is the Luis Severino you waited for. 5IP, 0ER, 9K. Worth every ounce, right?
  • Billy McKinney does his Bo Bichette impersonation atop the lineup. No, not the .214AVG. The two sensual strikes(11HR).
  • The chase is still on. I thought I heard Brett Gardner(27HR) throw down a piercing Nana Nana Boo Boo to Aaron Judge(26HR).
  • Gained Respect. Pete Alonso & Eugenio Suarez honor the ceasefire in games against each other. Alonso had come in disrespectful w/50th shot across the bow.
  • Can Derek Johnson fix Tinker Tailer Pitcher Bauer? Trevor Bauer w/5.89ERA & 1.89HR/9 in second half. Still achieved 20.6%K-BB.
  • Michael Conforto smacks 31st HR. Hoping for value in 2020. Won’t pay up for 35.5%Hard Hit rate/88.5mph avg exit velo.
  • The one that coats is the only one I need. Ryan Yarbrough w/3.1IP, 6K. Thanks, Pepto Bismol.
  • He’s done it. Yes, he has. His first big-league tater for Brendan McKay. No, don’t draft as a hitter in 2020.
  • Victor Reyes just wants to walk through the drive-thru for his Chick-Fil-A combo meal (4HR/7SB). Ask for crispy waffle fries next time.
  • Eloy Jimenez batting .298 w/14HR in the second half. .346BABIP but who cares. Power plays.
  • Logan Allen whoops up on the Braves. 6IP, 1ER, 7K. I know, I know. They only had one or two regulars. Still. Claim it!
  • Eric Thames! He’s gonna live forever. He’s gonna learn how to fly. High. (Must be sung to the tune of FAME). Two high notes (23HR).
  • Ok fine, Orlando Arcia. I bad-mouth you & then you hit your 15th tater.
  • I AM VERLANDER! There can be only one….20-game winner. Justin Verlander is that man.
  • “Oh, he’s just a big brute w/inflated BABIP(.372).” Yordan Alvarez goes 4-for-4 w/.326AVG. Oh, 27HR too.
  • The secret is out. Maybe not in your leagues. Miguel Sano w/seven shots of top-shelf stuff in 15 games. 33HR in 367AB. Mid-round power.
  • Nelson Cruz w/40HR in four of last six seasons. DH love.
  • Whit Merrifield has yet to be half the SB-man you wanted him to be (19).
  • Adalberto Mondesi injured again. Take the offseason & recover. You only get one body.
  • Yu Darvish proves you should never give up on players. In dynasty leagues, buy low on players early in the year. Always find value.
  • Nicholas Castellanos w/27th ray of sunshine. Just stay w/Cubs. Or sign w/Reds.
  • Paul DeJong can be found in the ‘Power w/no AVG’ aisle.
  • He is not the butler for the rich. He is Edman. 14th SB for Tommy Edman.
  • Looking for 2-makes-20, Willie Calhoun has arrived. Target in 2020, regardless of the new stadium.
  • The A’s can put up some runs. Well done, Cole Hamels for 5.1IP, 12K. 15th W.
  • The light bulb turns on, Hyun-Jin Ryu remembers everything. He dominates w/back door combo meal. 13th W/1st HR.
  • 5HR, 15RBI, .317AVG in last 15 games, Corey Seager making a little noise.
  • Robbie Ray confuses my emotions. 5.1IP, 4ER, 4BB 10K.
  • Franmil Reyes is a large man. Has he gotten larger? 36 dingers.
  • Oscar Mercado does it again. 14th HR. But all of y’all already own him.
  • Have a great Monday. Fresh air, fresh start to the week. You own you.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
