Tyler Eifert 2019 Outlook: A Return to Form?
Tyler Eifert had one of the more gruesome injuries in 2018 when he fractured his ankle in Week 4. He obviously missed the rest of the season and took time off to rehab said ankle. Eifert has a history of injuries, most notably his low back and elbow. Last year was the third time in his NFL career that he’s had a serious injury in September that caused him to miss the remainder of the season. So, can we trust Eifert this year now that he’s participating fully in OTAs? That decision is obviously yours but with his injury history, common sense would tell us to wait and see if you can get him off waivers if he shows promise. On a positive note, the Cincinnati offense will now have HC Zac Taylor, who is the latest brainchild of Sean McVay, at the helm of the offense where he will certainly increase the creativity of the Bengals’ offense. Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee were each productive in their own right in 2018 and if Eifert can stay healthy, the new head coach will find ways to get him the ball. In the offense we expect Taylor to run, the TE is rarely the focus and the Bengals offense should be a heavy dose of Joe Mixon, A.J. Green, and 2018 breakout Tyler Boyd with John Ross taking the top off defenses. There’s some upside here for Eifert but that’s been said before. If he can stay healthy, he should finish as a TE2.
