After Carlos Gomez's heroics in the eighth inning Thursday afternoon at Citi Field, the New York Mets call on closer Edwin Diaz to seal a two-run victory. The Puerto Rican native struck out two en route to a perfect ninth, recording his 12th save of the year. Diaz has only recorded four saves this month after picking up six in April. On Tuesday he recorded a victory, moving his record to 1-2. With 12 saves, however, he remains one of the best closers in the game, tied for the fifth-most in the league presently.
