Carolina Hurricanes center Jordan Staal (concussion) was activated from Injured Reserve to play in Saturday's 3-0 win against the Dallas Stars. He posted an assist with a plus-1 rating, two shots on goal, a minor penalty and three hits across 13:57 of ice time over 26 shifts. Staal missed the past 27 games since getting knocked out of a game on Dec. 22 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, his former team. The addition of Staal back to the lineup is almost like the Hurricanes swung a deal at the NHL trade deadline, acquiring a nice injection of offense for the stretch run and a possible playoff berth.--Daniel Dobish
