The Detroit Lions cut defensive end Robert Ayers on Tuesday, one day after the team announced they had signed the 33-year-old veteran. Ayers practiced with the team on Monday, and ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein reports there were no injury designations on the transaction wire. It's not uncommon for a player to be cut on short notice, but it is typical for a rookie, not a nine-year veteran. Ayers was expected to provide pass-rush help to a defense that desperately needs it. With their fourth preseason game on Thursday and roster cuts looming, it's possible that the Lions will claim a player who was cut from another team. This defense is not worth any consideration, even for an early bye week, until they figure out their pass-rush issues.--Steve Janik - RotoBallerRead More News
