Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk started his rehab assignment with High-A Dunedin on Tuesday, and it wasn’t the best nor the worst return for the 26-year-old. Grichuk finished 0-for-2 with two strikeouts, but did walk twice while serving as the team’s designated hitter. Normally this result would simply be dismissed as his first effort in a rehab start, but Grichuk unfortunately does not get that benefit. Prior to spraining his right PCL, Grichuk was slashing an absolutely putrid .106/.208/.227 this season. In his absence, Toronto’s outfield has been productive with Kevin Pillar, Curtis Granderson, and (Grichuk’s direct replacement) Teoscar Hernandez all producing in some form or fashion at points. Grichuk may need to earn his way back in the lineup rather than simply getting it based on health, and so we need to watch his performances carefully.--John Smith
