New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard has been very good, but a bit underwhelming in 2018 thus far. In his last start on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, Thor only pitched five innings, but did pick up his strikeout game by punching out seven. On Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he’ll look to build upon that progress. While the Blue Jays are a very strikeout-prone offense, the Diamondbacks are even guiltier of that offense. Arizona has struck out a total of 439 times as a team in 2018, “good enough” for the fourth-most in all of baseball. This offense was sinking even before the long-term injury to outfielder A.J. Pollock, and seems ripe for the picking for Syndergaard after teammate Jacob deGrom ate them up on Friday.--John Smith
