Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football waiver wire outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider adding off waivers in Week 10:
Kyle Monangai, RB, Bears
Chicago Bears rookie running back Kyle Monangai had a monster game filling in for the injured D'Andre Swift (groin) in Week 9. Monangai recorded 198 scrimmage yards on 29 touches in his team's 49-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Swift's injury is not expected to keep him out long-term, so fantasy managers should not expect Monangai to see 20-plus touches every week. However, the rookie was closing the gap between the backs even before Swift went down. In Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens, Swift played 31 offensive snaps while Monangai was just behind him at 29.
Monangai is currently averaging 5.3 yards per rush attempt, so his efficiency may make it difficult to keep him off the field. In fantasy leagues where he remains available, Monangai should be a priority waiver-wire target heading into a favorable Week 10 matchup against the New York Giants.
Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs
With backfield mate Isiah Pacheco (knee) inactive for Week 9's 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt led the team's ground game. The veteran tied a season-high with 49 rushing yards on 11 totes, adding six yards on 1-of-2 receiving. Hunt punched in another short touchdown in this one, giving him three across his last two appearances and six on the season as a whole. While his efficiency hasn't been off the charts, the Toledo product has rushed for at least 4.4 yards per clip in four of his previous five games.
Furthermore, he's the most likely option on his team aside from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to find pay dirt on the ground. Pacheco is expected to return following Kansas City's Week 10 bye. However, Hunt projects to lead the backfield again if he doesn't. It will be a situation to keep tabs on over the coming week.
Devin Singletary, RB, Giants
New York Giants running back Devin Singletary was expected to have an increased role this weekend with Cam Skattebo (ankle) sidelined for the rest of the season. Singletary was expected to play a backup role to Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the backfield. However, Singletary ended up seeing the most carries in the backfield this past weekend.
Singletary rushed eight times for 43 yards, while hauling in two receptions for eight yards in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. His 5.3 yards per carry should help Singletary earn a bigger role in the backfield going forward. It's tough to call Singletary a viable streaming choice, but he's someone to watch heading into the Week 10 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Dylan Sampson, RB, Browns
Cleveland Browns rookie running back Dylan Sampson has recorded 184 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 48 touches across the first eight games of his NFL career. Coming out of Cleveland's Week 9 bye, Sampson could be his team's RB1. Star Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins (shoulder) suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder in Week 8 that could keep him sidelined in Week 10 when Cleveland takes on the New York Jets.
Even if Judkins misses Week 10, Sampson would likely still split backfield work with veteran back Jerome Ford. Still, Sampson has definite fantasy appeal as the potential lead back in a very favorable matchup against the Jets. Fantasy managers in PPR-scoring leagues with 12 or more teams should target Sampson on the waiver wire leading into Week 10.
Brashard Smith, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Brashard Smith continues to be a part of the Chiefs' backfield rotation, but he had a disappointing showing in Week 9 against the Bills. He had three carries for seven yards and couldn't haul in his only target. The converted receiver was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round, and he has played a significant role behind Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco (knee) in some game scripts. In Week 9, though, even with Pacheco out, he couldn't get much going, while Hunt dominated touches and production.
With the Chiefs headed to a bye week, Smith is worth holding or picking up from the waiver wire in deep leagues since he does still have upside down the road. However, in most standard leagues, better backfield options are available in other timeshare situations. Smith is definitely worth monitoring as a playmaker in the Chiefs' potent offense, but his role will be limited if Pacheco is ready to return in Week 11.
