Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 7:
David Montgomery, RB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that he would like to get running back David Montgomery a "bigger piece of the pie" in the rushing attack, according to Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News. With a negative game script in the Week 6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Montgomery only saw four carries for 24 yards and caught two passes for 37 yards.
It was by far the 28-year-old's smallest role through six weeks of the 2025 season. The Lions offense is at its best when they are dictating the pace of the game and able to mix in plenty of play-action passing. Monty also played a season-low 31% of the offensive snaps in Week 6 after seeing a season-high 53% of the snaps in Week 5.
It sounds like Detroit will make it a point to get Montgomery more involved in Week 7 on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making him a more attractive RB3/flex play against a Bucs defense that has been in the middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to RBs this year.
Brian Thomas Jr., WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
After a slow start to the 2025 season, his second year in the NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has heated up the last two weeks. In the 20-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Thomas had eight catches on 10 targets for a season-high 90 yards and his first touchdown of the year.
He led the team in targets, catches, and receiving yards. Thomas' eight catches were the most he's had in a game this season, and he's now caught 12 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown on 16 targets in the last two weeks. Fantasy managers are hoping that the 23-year-old second-year pass-catcher is just starting to find his groove with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Thomas had over 1,200 yards receiving and 10 total touchdowns in 2024, so we know what he's capable of. He'll be a must-start in a Week 7 matchup in London against the Los Angeles Rams.
Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said on Monday that wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) is not in play to return for the team's Week 7 Monday night contest versus the Detroit Lions, according to Greg Auman of FOX Sports.
Godwin didn't make his 2025 debut until Week 4 after recovering from a dislocated ankle last year, and he was only able to play in two games before suffering a fibula injury that kept him sidelined in the Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers. It appears Godwin is going to miss a second game, too.
With rookie Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) getting hurt on Sunday, and Mike Evans (hamstring) still out, the Bucs could be down to Sterling Shepard, Kameron Johnson, and Tez Johnson as their starters in three-wide sets in Week 7. If Godwin doesn't play next Monday night, his next chance to return would come in Week 8 against the division-rival New Orleans Saints.
Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks believe running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet "complement each other well" and will "continue to vary their usage according to their weekly game plan and opponent," according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.
Through six weeks, Walker III has recorded 425 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns on 86 total touches, while Charbonnet has logged 186 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns on 64 total touches.
As long as both backs are healthy, it appears it will remain difficult for fantasy managers to fully trust either one for high-end fantasy production. In Week 7 against the Houston Texans, Walker III profiles as a low-end RB2 while Charbonnet profiles as a low-end flex option.
Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Jennings played through five broken ribs during last weekend's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He hauled in one of his three targets for seven yards. Jennings played 77 percent of the offensive snaps despite dealing with an ankle and obvious rib issues.
At the moment, it seems like Jennings will be available for the Week 7 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. However, the injuries are likely impacting his performance, so he won't be an ideal fantasy option, assuming he's active.
