Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6:
DJ Moore, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore has gotten off to a sluggish start this season, recording just 16 catches on 21 targets for 173 yards and one touchdown through four games. The veteran wideout appears to have ceded the WR1 role to emerging second-year star Rome Odunze, who has quickly become Caleb Williams' favorite target.
Before the bye week, Williams mentioned that Moore could serve as the "Deebo Samuel" of the Bears' offense, which has fantasy managers feeling uneasy. Fortunately, the Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders offers some hope. Washington has surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season, providing Moore with a chance to bounce back.
Still, Moore profiles as a low-end WR3 for Week 6, as his fantasy production will likely hinge on whether he finds the end zone.
Zach Ertz, TE, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz was held catchless in a game in Week 5 against the Chargers for the first time since Week 13 of the 2014 season, crazy enough. Ertz has been a reliable target over the middle for quarterback Jayden Daniels, but the two did not connect on just one target in Week 5.
He'll look to get back on track Monday night against a Bears defense that has allowed nearly 30 points per game through four weeks. And Ertz could see an increase in targets if star receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (heel) is unable to play. Ertz remains a low-end TE1 for Monday night.
D'Andre Swift, RB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift will look to bounce back after a sluggish start to the 2025 season. Through four games, Swift has logged 56 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns, adding 13 receptions for 85 yards through the air. It's been an inefficient stretch for the former second-round pick, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry, with only one broken tackle so far.
Rookie Kyle Monangai has impressed early, which could start to pressure Swift's workload if his struggles continue. The matchup against the Commanders isn't ideal either, as they've allowed the 10th-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. However, Swift torched Washington last year for 129 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, showing he's capable of breaking out in this spot. Swift projects as a low-end RB2, as he hopes to rebound off a slow start.
Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will look to continue his strong sophomore campaign coming out of the bye week. Through his first four games, the No. 1 overall pick has completed 81 of 130 passes for 927 yards and eight touchdowns with just two interceptions, ranking as the QB6 during that stretch. Under new head coach Ben Johnson, Williams has started to showcase his full potential, helping Chicago ride a two-game win streak into Week 6.
The 2024 first-overall pick will face the second-overall pick in Jayden Daniels on Monday Night Football, in what should be an exciting primetime matchup. The Commanders' defense has struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks, allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to the position and surrendering 20+ point outings to Geno Smith, Michael Penix Jr., and Jordan Love.
With a favorable matchup and the potential for a shootout, Williams remains a locked-in QB1 for Week 6.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt broke out with his best game of the season in Week 5 against the Chargers, totaling 150 yards and two touchdowns on 16 touches. The Croskey-Merritt takeover finally happened in Week 5, posting a season-high 50.9% snap share, handling 50% of the team's rush attempts, and running 31.3% of the team's routes.
All marks were the highest of any Washington back in Week 5, and he delivered with a remarkable performance. For the season, he's rushed 283 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries, averaging a league-best 6.6 yards per carry. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury provided some reason to keep the optimism in check, saying that the rookie still has "ways to go" in terms of playing without the ball in his hands. His work in pass protection has improved, but that is still an area where veteran Jeremy McNichols is most trusted.
Third-year back Chris Rodriguez Jr. saw his lowest snap count and fewest carries in a game since becoming active in Week 5, suggesting he may be slipping back into a depth role. Croskey-Merritt should be expected to handle the bulk of the touches again in Week 6 against a Bears defense that is allowing an absurd 6.1 yards per carry and the fourth-most PPR points per game to opposing running backs.
He should be fired up as a high-upside RB2 on Monday night.
