Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson is a compelling but volatile fantasy option for Week 3 after the best game of his career. Robinson exploded for 24.2 fantasy points against the Cowboys, hauling in 8 of 10 targets for 142 yards and a touchdown, earning high praise from quarterback Russell Wilson.
While fantasy managers may question if he can repeat this performance, he gets an ideal opportunity against a vulnerable Kansas City Chiefs secondary.
The Chiefs rank as the 25th-best defense against fantasy wide receivers, allowing a generous 39.95 points per game to the position, making Robinson a high-upside WR3/flex play this week.
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams recorded 108 receiving yards in his team's 52-21 Week 2 victory over the Chicago Bears, including a 44-yard touchdown catch. However, Williams hauled in just two passes on four targets, raising questions about whether his role will be expanded beyond being a downfield threat in 2025.
The 24-year-old Williams is unquestionably explosive with the ball in his hands, averaging over 17 yards per reception for his career. Still, he's recorded just six catches on nine targets through the first two games of the season after averaging under four catches per game in 2024.
The Lions explosive downfield threat, Jameson Williams, profiles as a boom/bust fantasy WR3/flex option until proven otherwise.
Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston led his team in receiving yards for the second consecutive week and scored his third touchdown of the season in Monday night's win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
He caught three of his seven targets for 71 yards, highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown just before halftime. His 66.7% red-zone target share makes him a very strong option in the Chargers' improved passing attack. RotoBaller projects a favorable matchup if he faces Denver Broncos cornerback Riley Moss, despite the Broncos having one of the best secondaries in the league.
RotoBaller ranks the Los Angeles Chargers' former first-round draft pick as a low-end WR4 this week, but he should be startable in multi-flex or deeper leagues.
David Montgomery, RB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in his team's 52-21 Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears. Since joining the Lions, Montgomery has been one of the NFL's most consistent red-zone backs. The 28-year-old has not gone consecutive games within a season without scoring a touchdown since December 2023.
On a less positive note for fantasy managers, Montgomery appears set for a secondary role behind Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit this season. Although Gibbs only earned one more carry than Montgomery in Week 2, Montgomery was on the field for 10 fewer snaps. The veteran has also recorded seven fewer touches than his backfield mate through the first two games of the season.
Montgomery remains a consistent flex option in fantasy, but he'll likely be reliant on finding the end zone again to produce in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens.
D'Andre Swift, RB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift (quad) is questionable to play in his team's Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys due to a quad injury, according to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune. Swift has dominated snaps at running back so far this year for Chicago, logging 134 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 35 total touches.
If Swift were to miss Week 3, rookie running back Kyle Monangai would likely be the lead back in Chicago, with Roschon Johnson potentially working in as a short-yardage option. Monangai has recorded just 47 scrimmage yards on nine total touches through his first two games.
The Dallas Cowboys' defense has struggled so far this season, so Monangai would potentially have some appeal as a flex option if called into action as Chicago's RB1.
