Week 2 Running Back Rankings Outlooks

Tony Pollard, Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard did not have his most efficient game in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, rushing for 60 yards on 18 carries and recording one catch for 29 yards. Still, Pollard received 90% of the running back carries for Tennessee in Week 1, a trend that figures to continue as long as Titans RB2 Tyjae Spears (ankle) remains on Injured Reserve due to a high ankle sprain.

Pollard gets a tough matchup in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams, who allowed just nine points to the Houston Texans in Week 1. However, Houston gained 127 yards on the ground, and lead back Nick Chubb averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Expect Tennessee to lean on Pollard to ease the pressure on rookie quarterback Cameron Ward and slow down a formidable Rams' pass rush. Pollard is a volume-based low-end fantasy RB2 in Week 2.

Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren will begin his first campaign as the team's featured ballcarrier in a road bout with the New York Jets. Warren thrived in a complementary role through his first three seasons, averaging 4.8 yards per tote while adding 127 receptions. Although he is expected to lead Pittsburgh's backfield ahead of rookie Kaleb Johnson, Warren will be tested by a solid New York defense. The Jets shut down running backs in the passing game and held the position to the fifth-fewest yards per carry in 2024. This is expected to be a low-scoring affair, so while Warren doesn't offer extreme upside, he can be started as a volume-based RB2 or flex option in Week 1.

TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots could look to modify their backfield roles in Week 2 when they face the Miami Dolphins. Reiss noted that the team's snap distribution could change following their loss in Week 1. In this contest, veteran Rhamondre Stevenson dominated the workload while second-round rookie TreVeyon Henderson was deployed as the clear No. 2. However, given that their rushing attack was unsuccessful in this contest, the coaching staff appears to be already looking for ways to improve.

Head coach Mike Vrabel noted that, "We have to evaluate everything to make sure we're getting it right based on volume, who's playing, who's getting the ball." While Stevenson will likely remain the leader of the backfield, fantasy managers should expect Henderson to see more than just the five attempts he saw in the opener. As a result, Henderson carries flex appeal with upside, while Stevenson is best left as a volume play in deeper formats.

D'Andre Swift, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift is looking to bounce back after an inefficient outing to start the season. Swift was the workhorse in Week 1, totaling 20 attempts for 65 yards against the difficult Minnesota Vikings run defense. Head coach Ben Johnson stated, "He needs to call more run plays." The matchup is just as difficult in Week 2, as Swift faces the Lions defense, which allowed the second-fewest rushing yards to running backs in 2024.

The Lions' defense was able to contain Packers running back Josh Jacobs, who averaged 3.5 yards per carry in Week 1. Swift struggled against his former team last season, averaging less than three yards per carry in those games. Swift is a mid to low-RB3 this week, with his fantasy production likely depending on whether he scores a touchdown.

Zach Charbonnet, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet surprisingly led the Seahawks' backfield in Week 1 by a relatively wide margin. While Kenneth Walker III had 13 touches to Charbonnet's 12, Charbonnet held a 58% to 40% snap share advantage over Walker. Walker was dealing with injuries throughout the offseason that opened the door for Charbonnet to take on a larger role. As such, the snap share will likely even out as the season wears on, but the touches should remain similar. However, Charbonnet was not very present on passing downs in Week 1.

Walker earned three targets to Charbonnet's zero. The passing game usage is what can propel Charbonnet into the lineup lock conversation. For now, Charbonnet's usage should be monitored, but he is worth a flex spot in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is a great bet to score a short-yardage touchdown and break off a couple of rumbling runs.
